To find a police report involving you, identify the law-enforcement agency that took the report and request the record from that agency under its local access rules. A police report is not the same as an FBI Identity History Summary or a court case. If you do not know the agency, start from the incident location and date.
Write down date, location, report/incident number, and agency if known.
Use that police or sheriff records unit and its official request process.
Use the court for the case file and FBI CJIS only when the task is your FBI Identity History Summary.
DOJ guidance states that state/local records such as local police or court records must be requested from the state/local government maintaining them.
The FBI Identity History Summary is a fingerprint-based personal history product; it should not be presented as a copy of a local police incident report.
